About Us

Words from our President

The Greater Moncton Scottish Association has been promoting Scottish culture and heritage for more than 50 years.

Over time, we’ve expanded from simple Robert Burns Day dinners and waterfront concerts to a full Highland Games & Scottish Festival, with several annual events and competitions supporting piping, dancing, heavy events, and more.

We were honoured to host the host the inaugural

Canadian Scottish Athletic Federation’s Lightweight Championships in 2019 &

the 2022 Scottish Highland Games Masters World Championships .

This was the first time this international competition came to the East Coast of Canada,

a place known around the world for its deep connections to our Scottish heritage. We hope it won't be the last!

Tens of thousands of New Brunswickers have some Scottish ancestry, so it’s important that we as an organization
shine a light on what this culture and its people have brought to our province
in terms of music, literature, innovation, and our pioneering spirit.

The Greater Moncton Scottish Association works hard to uphold our connections to the past,

but also strives to create new traditions & relationships that reflect our role in

Greater Moncton’s increasingly diverse cultural landscape.

On behalf of all the members of the Greater Moncton Scottish Association, thank you for visiting our website.

Whether you have Scottish roots or simply a love for celebrating the culture, we encourage you to join us as a member.

Fees are low & support many community efforts, including our cultural bursaries, dance competitions, and more.

~ Steve Tweedie, GMSA President

About Us

The Greater Moncton Scottish Association's origins date to 1974 when a group of Moncton area residents of Scottish heritage formed the Moncton Scottish Association for the "study and promotion of Scottish culture in all its forms."

In 2006, the association put on an evening of music, dance and sports at Bore Park which was so well received it evolved into our highly successful Highland Games and Scottish Festival.

In 2010, our association became incorporated and our organization's name was changed to The Greater Moncton Scottish Association Inc. to better reflect the demographics of our membership.

We welcome all persons with Scottish ancestry or an interest in Scottish culture to join us!
